So I have this very sad empty basket sitting on a bookshelf in my living room. I purchased it at a garage sale for $0.50. My intent was to make some decor balls to put in it but I have not gotten around to it. This weekend I decided to hunker down and do it!
I love thrift stores! I swear I purchase about 90% of my craft supplies from them. Recently I found those styrofoam balls for $0.75! Which is amazing for what they cost at a regular store. I also found this paper craft cording for $1.25 which I thought would decorate my styrofoam balls nicely!
Here are all of my supplies:
The kidney beans I ofcourse purchased new at the store however, I still have a huge bag left and am thinking maybe, chili?
With Hulu.com cued on my computer and the kiddos in bed I set out to make my decor balls. The first one used the marroon cording. This is the result:
After cutting out lots of little squares from the yellow fabric and making little holes, using my handy trusty hot glue gun I got this decor ball:
I love it! (Trick to this is to make the hole with a pencil, put a little hot glue in the hole, place your pencil in the center of the fabric, fold it around the pencil, put it in the hole and twist a little so is is kind of swirly if that makes sense.)
Finally I glued the kidney beans on to the foam ball and then painted it white to prime it and then spray painted it to give it a nice white color.
In the end, I am very happy with the results and my sad little basket is no longer sad!
Check out my side bar for link parties I am joining today!
I love this!! I am in the process of making decor balls for my "man basement"! I might have to try some of these fabric ones!
