Bathroom Reveal

Well I hope that I kept you in anticipation for the final reveal, it's been what, 3 months. But it literally took me this long to finish. The major part was scrapping the ceiling and then painting the ceiling. Oh man did my neck hurt so bad the next day! Well let's start with the before pictures:

The cupboards and the gold light fixture. I didn't bother to clean the bathroom before I got started. so don't mind the mess!

The shower area. I took the pictures at night so that is why it is so orangey looking.

You can tell that I need a lot of work on the bathroom. I have to admit that I am so in love with the bathroom now! It isn't completely done but here it is!

The paint is is so much better! The window frame and wreath I got from around the house. The candle stick and bins were bought at local thrift stores.

I painted the shower area and I wanted a little contrast in there so I put up some wood trim and painted a cream color above. I have some ideas about pictures to hang up there but I am still running some ideas around in my head. You can also see the lack of popcorn ceiling (Whoo Hoo!) and the new light fixtures that I, yes I, put in myself!

The sink area. I want to paint the cupboards but that will come. I replaced the light fixture, thank you nice people at Home Depot for your help. The previous fixture was a long base fixture and the new one just was a small circle but I will go into details later on.

A awesome towel hook I found at a thrift store.

My sister had this shelf and it was banged up a little and that orange wood color. She was going to throw it away but I was like "I'll take it and sand it and paint it!" So now it is in my bathroom and I picked up most of the decorative pieces at the local thrift store.

So there you have it! The bathroom reveal! It was a lot of work but now I am loving it! So much better and brighter!

Thrift Store Redo

Happy Snowy Blizzardy Day!

I thought after the 50 degree weather earlier this week that we were just going to forgo the whole winter thing and start with spring.

Boy was I wrong!

Geez! Here in good Ole' MN there is about 12 inches of snow on the ground and it is still a-coming! My back and arms ache from having to shovel the driveway (I need to start going to the gym).

While the weather was nice I started some painting projects to capitalize on it.

Remember this picture of all the thrift store finds I scored?

Well, I scored this fabulous holder/book end thingy for .99 cents! Yeah!

I still had some left over "Emma's Eyes" paint for the shoe holder so I decided to use it on this project. I primed the whole box, painted it, sanded to distress and spray painted the knobs black (much better then the gold knobs, they look like they are glowing!)

Here is how it turned out:

I really like it! I love the color. I love how it looks so elegant with my Jane Austen completel novel book (I will read that, some day!)

The knobs turned out really well but I have a questions to all you knob painters out there: Do you prime the knobs before you paint? It seemed that the spray paint was just sliding off the knobs. I had to use like half the can to get it too look this covered (trust me in some spots it is not.) Please divulge!

Anyways, that is one of the thrift store redos I have been working on.

Taking a Break

I bet you thought that I was going to say I am going to take a break from blogging.

HA!

I am not, I am simply taking a break from sewing/diaper making.

I now have 8 cloth diapers made up and they seem to be working smoothly for my son. It is so nice to think that I don't have to go out tomorrow and drop $25.00 on diapers because I can just wash some up. I don't know why I didn't do this sooner!

So, after deciding to take a break from sewing and redoing the boy's room I tackled a project that I have been wanting to do for a while now.

A few years ago my mother-in-law found this beauty on the side of the road for nada, nothing.

It's ok. Kinda plain mostly used for holding blankets and such. I decided that it was time for a major face lift. So yesterday I got started tackling this project.

In my house there are a lot of people. 7 to be exact which means there are a lot of shoes around. As an impromptu fix I put together a wire basket to hold all the shoes. This is what it looks like:

A great big mess. It was bothering me something terrible so I decided to fix it!

I got some clearance paint at Walmart called Emma's Eyes and got painting.

After removing the heart shaped back board and cutting tall wood to be even with the shorter one. After painting a Heirloom White "M" on the lid and distressing with the sand paper and stain this is what I got:

I also painted the inside bottom and sides with Mod Podge hoping that will keep the wood intact better when the wet shoes come.



I love it! So much prettier then both the before picture. I have ordered everyone to clean out their shoes and are only allowed 2 pairs per person.

I painted the "M" on because I wanted to be able to distress it and I didn't think that vinyl would have given me the look I wanted!
